God is our Refuge and Strength

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though thewaters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountainsshake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” Psalms 46:1-3

Last Friday March 11, 2011 was a fateful day for all of us and the whole world when the news of the massive killer earthquake with magnitude of intensity 8.9 hit Japan followed by a tsunami surge destroying farmlands, homes and buildings in its path in Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture. The unprecedented earthquake slammed Japan’s northeastern coast Friday, destroying houses, buildings and infrastructures, unleashing a 13-foot (4-meter) tsunami that swept boats, cars, buildings and tons of debris miles inland. Fires triggered by the quake burned out of control up and down the coast. The tsunami travelled at a supersonic speed of some 1,100 miles per hour rendering removing any chance for escape to those in its path. It was a horrendous and shocking picture of the great calamities that the Bible prophecies warned us! It makes us conclude that indeed, we are in the last of the Last Days!

Tsunami warnings were immediately released to more than fifty countries in the Pacific “ring of fire”, the countries in the vast Pacific ocean that lies at the geological fissures in the continental plates of Asia stretching to all the Pacific islands, Australia and New Zealand. These are the countries that are susceptible to destructive earthquakes and the resulting tsunamis or tidal waves. After the tsunami destroyed Japan, it was forecasted to hit Taiwan in two hours, then the Philippines in four hours. The massive 8.9 intensity earthquake occurred at around 2:00P.M., Philippine time and was expected to hit the Philippines at around 6:00P.M. The forecasts said that the Eastern part of the Philippine archipelago will be hit by about a meter high tsunami from Batanes all the way down to the Visayas and Surigao in Mindanao.

CNN and BBC news agencies declared that the Philippines was ill prepared for such magnitude of the impending calamity! Indeed, there was no amount of readiness that could prepare a nation for such destructive force of nature; what the world did not know was the spiritual preparation that was done by the church, the intercessors from among God’s people who called upon the name of the Lord since the time of our Jubilee of Jubilees last March 16, 2010 and cried out to God for help and mercy!

By God’s abundant mercy, the Intercessors for the Philippines (IFP) has mobilized and set up the 24 Hour Houses of Prayers (24HHP) throughout the nation especially in the three key cities of the land. Warned by the Prophet, Bro. Sadhu Sundar Selavaraj of massive destructive earthquakes and tsunamis that will hit the Asian region during our last Proclamation of the Year of Jubilee of the Philippines (PYJP) celebration in Cebu City and in the different Jubilee Prophetic Conferences (JPC) in Cebu for the Visayas, Surigao City for Mindanao and San Juan City for Luzon, the Lord has enabled IFP to spearhead the intense mobilization throughout the Body of Christ nationwide. We took heed of the warnings and came before the Lord in brokenness and humility during the Three Day National Fasting and Prayers (TDNFP) at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium last April 2010. Pastors from the 82 provinces of the country came up the stage repenting for the sins of the church and confessing the sins of their people and then dedicating their provinces to the lordship of Christ. We felt the Lord heard our cries of repentance and mercy. After the massive prayer events and prophetic gatherings, IFP then relentlessly pursued the establishment of 24HHP all over the land.

The result was astonishing and greatly amazing! When the horrible calamity struck Japan, one of the most powerful nations of the world visible in real time through satellite broadcasts before the eyes of the world, we could only hope in God who alone is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46: 1-3). IFP immediately sent Prayer Alerts by the hour as the impending calamity of the tsunami was about to hit the eastern part of the country. Providentially, IFP scheduled an intercity prayer gathering featuring Sister Christine Darg from Israel that Friday when the tsunami was scheduled to hit our land. This gathering attended by some 600 people filled up the whole CLSF sanctuary and provided the platform for prayers and intercessions to be offered to God pleading for His mercy and grace upon our land.

Bishop “Kuya” Dan Balais, the CLSF senior pastor saw a vision of the Philippine islands with golden walls of light shining on the eastern part of the archipelago, a great assurance from the Lord that the Philippines will be spared from this impending calamity and destruction. Sure enough, when the tsunami hit our land, it rose no more than 0.6 meter gently lapping our shores! It was a great deliverance from our God who heard our cries! Indeed, God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble! Kuya Dan and the IFP leadership encourage everyone to all the more commit and faithfully fulfill the work of watchman over the walls of our nation! The Lord has shown to us His mercy! Let us continue to call upon His name!

Truly, the God that we serve is a faithful and loving. His plans for us is to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and future. All we have to do is to humble before Him and fear His name. and when we call upon His name, He will answer our cries and delivers us from all our troubles. Praise the name of the Lord, now and forever more.
