The Seven Blessings of the Passover

“And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.” Exodus 12:13

The Passover in the time of Israel’s slavery in Egypt was a crucial event that powerfully set a nation free from their 400 years of slavery in Egypt. For the Jewish people, it was a night of contrasting predicament: the terrible 10th and final plague of the death of all the firstborn of Egypt, both from man and beast of the Egyptians and the merciful and mighty deliverance and protection for all the children of Israel, descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Exo 12: 11-14). The Lord commanded Israel to observe the Passover as a Feast, a memorial throughout their generation. The Feast of Passover commemorates not only their deliverance and freedom from Egypt but also Israel’s birth as a nation. The Passover was a prophetic type of the ultimate “Passover Lamb” who was slain for the redemption of all mankind- the Lord Jesus Christ some 1,200 years from the time that it was first observed by Israel on that fateful day of judgment on Egypt and mighty deliverance for God’s people. The day Jesus was crucified was the exact day of the Passover celebration. While every household in Israel was slaying the Passover lamb, the Lord Jesus hanged on the cross, His sinless blood shed for us and His life offered to atone for the sins of mankind. It was at 3:00, when Jesus finally cried out, “It is finished” giving up His spirit – the exact moment that the Passover lamb was sacrificed and the shofar was blown from the Temple. At the very instant, the veil of the Temple (a three-inch thick, several story high cloth that demarked the Holy of Holies) tore from top to bottom- representing a removal of the separation between God and man.

Unknown to many Christians today, the Lord made seven promises connected with the keeping of the Feast of Passover and the subsequent feasts of Unleavened Bread and Firstfuits. These seven promises were embodied in Exodus 23: 20-29 when the Lord instituted the Feasts before all Israel. These seven blessings that we can claim through our Passover Lamb who is the Lord Jesus (I Cor 5:7) are:

  1. God will assign an angel to His people (Exo 23: 20, 23)
  2. God will be an enemy to the enemies of His people (v. 22)
  3. God will give prosperity to His people (v. 25)
  4. God will take sickness away from His people (v. 25)
  5. God will give long life to His people (v. 26)
  6. God will bring increase and inheritance (v. 30)
  7. God will give a special year of blessing (v. 31)

Indeed, the blessings of our Passover Lamb, the Lord Jesus Christ did not only set us free from sin and death but place us in a position of His grace and favour to enable us to live in the abundant life that He has promised to His people (Deut 28: 1-14; John 10:10). Let us celebrate the essence and fulfillment of the Feast of the Passover, Unleavened Bread and Firstfruit. Their essence and fulfillment is our Lord Jesus Christ!

Celebrating the Passover

“And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S Passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I Am the LORD.” Exodus 12:11-12

This coming week is the celebration of the Holy Week for the whole Christian world. It is a tradition that originated in a time that Christianity has taken the Greek pagan holidays and gave it a Christian essence and content, an attempt by Emperor Constantine to make Christianity acceptable to the pagan Roman Empire. While the whole essence of the Holy Week is about the passion of Christ- His precious last supper with His disciples, His agony at Gethsemane, His betrayal by Judas Iscariot, His trial, His humiliation, His punishment and sufferings, His crucifixion and death, His burial and finally, His resurrection, His ascension and glorification, the Holy Week tradition veered us away from the essential Hebraic feasts that coincided with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. The biblical feasts that prophetically foretold with what will be celebrated next week are the three summer feasts of the Lord namely: The Feast of Passover, the Feast Unleavened Bread and the Feast of First Fruit (Lev 23: 4-10).

The Passover or “Pesach” in Hebrew is one of the Jewish religion’s most sacred and widely observed holidays. It commemorates the story of the Israelites’ departure from ancient Egypt, which was recorded in the book of Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. The Jews observe the weeklong festival with a number of important rituals, including traditional Passover meals known as “seders”, the removal of leavened products from their home, the substitution of matzo for bread and the retelling of the account of Israel’s exodus from Egypt. The Passover celebration recounts the time when God sent the final plague upon the Egyptians and Pharaoh, the tenth plague which was the death of every firstborn child in the land of Egypt. The Lord instructed Moses to tell the children of Israel to kill the Passover lamb and apply its blood on the door posts and lintel of their dwellings. At midnight, the angel of death will pass through the land smiting all the firstborn of every family, both man and beast. Those without the blood on their doors shall be smitten. The Lord promised the children of Israel: “When I see the blood, I will Passover you”. They must eat the meat of the lamb that night, roast with fire, with unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs. They must eat the meat of the lamb and nothing of it must remain in the morning. Anything that remains, they must burn with fire. They must eat with their loins girded, with shoes on their feet, and their staff in their hand; they shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S Passover (Exodus 12: 3-14)! The Lord instructed them to keep it for a memorial as a feast to the LORD throughout their generations; they shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever (Exo 12: 14)!

The Lord Jesus is the Passover Lamb of the whole world. Through His blood, man will be saved from the eternal judgment of hell! Every man and woman who received Him as their sacrificial lamb will be saved from eternal damnation. He was called by John the Baptist: the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world! Yes, when God, our merciful Heavenly Father sees the blood, He will Passover us!

The Sword of the Spirit: the Power of the Spoken Word of God

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” Ephesians 6:17

The End Time Church is approaching a critical time when it will enter the greatest war of attrition against the forces of darkness that has imprisoned billions of people all over the world. The “Ezer” Bride of Christ shall arise clothed with power and glory of the Kingdom of God and will be joined by the armies in heaven to fight the final spiritual war against satan and his host of demonic spirits. The Lord Jesus declared that the Church or “Ekklessia” that He will build is a militant and powerful church that will assault the gates of hell and destroy them (Matt 16: 18)! It will have the connection to heaven and is given the keys of the Kingdom of God (Matt 16:19)! The great Apostle Paul clearly taught the early believers that the church is at war (II Cor. 10: 4-5; Eph. 6: 12) with the hierarchy of fallen angels and demonic spirits. These are supernatural beings whose realm is the world of darkness that will only be overcome similarly, with the supernatural weapons of God! The Apostle Paul listed down the armour of God (Eph. 6: 12-17). All of the different pieces of the armour were meant to defend and protect the warriors of the Lord; but there is one that is meant to be such a powerful and effective offensive weapon: the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God!

The writer of the Book of Hebrews described the Word of God as a sharp, two-edged sword (Heb. 4:12)! The sword was the ancient army’s most powerful man-to-man combat weapon. Before the invention of the gunpowder, the spear and the sword were the most effective conventional weapon in ancient warfare. The apostle Paul called the Word of God the Sword of the Spirit! It is sharp, powerful and will pierce through the most hidden and protected encampments of the enemy, satan. The effectiveness of its use will depend on the mastery and skillfulness of those who use it. A soldier of olden times cannot afford to part with his sword. He has to sleep with it, walk with it, eat with it, etc. The sword must always be fitted securely on his belt, secured in its sheath. In times of war, losing your sword is synonymous to losing your life or being captured by your enemy.

In the same token, God’s people are given the most powerful weapon known in heaven and o the earth: the Word of God! The Lord Jesus said: “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Mat 16:19). The word of God has to be spoken and declared with understanding, faith and boldness against the enemy! This was how the Lord Jesus fought and defeated the enemy (Matt 4: 1-11)! The Lord Jesus overpowered, rebuked and cast satan away by declaring the Word of God against the temptations and crafting lies of the devil. The Lord said to the Prophet Jeremiah: “I put My Words in your mouth and I set you over nations and Kingdoms to root out, pull down, destroy, throw down, build and plant! (Jer. 1:10). The Word of God is an extremely powerful weapon! It is the Sword of the Spirit! Let us read, study, understand, meditate and proclaim it with the Holy Spirit- imparted faith and boldness against the enemy!

The Redemption, the Church and the Spiritual War

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” 2Corinthians 10:4-5

The apostle Paul revealed to us the reality of the spiritual war that the Church faces from the time of its birth to its final glorification as the Bride of Christ at the End of the Age. The Lord Jesus Himself emphasized this at the very first time that He mentioned about the Church or the “ekklesia” in Matt 16:18 when he said to Apostle Peter: “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”

The church was born to contend and make war against Satan and the Kingdom of Darkness (Eph. 6: 12). Satan and all his demonic hosts have built strongholds in the minds and hearts of people, taking control over individuals, families, cities and nations viciously leading mankind in the cosmic rebellion that he began before the creation of the earth. He was the anointed cherub who, because of pride, rebelled against God (Isaiah 14: 12-20; Ezek. 28: 14-19) and was judged together with one third of fallen angels who went in rebellion with him (Rev 12: 3-4). Satan, that old serpent was in the Garden of Eden in the beginning of creation and tempted Eve and eventually Adam into partaking of the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil opening the gates of Sin to mankind (Gen 3: 1-9). Through subtle deceit, Satan has taken over the reign of this world through his earthly surrogate, man and has taken dominion on the earth through the fallen, sinful nature that has been passed on from Adam to all men (Rom 5:12). Satan was known as the god of this world (II Cor 4:4) and his mission is to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10a).

God, however, in His wisdom and great love and mercy have planned a glorious redemption for all peoples and nations before the foundation of the world. Through the Lord Jesus’ absolute and complete obedience to the will of the Father, the Lord Jesus took back what Satan has stolen from man. On the cross, His work of redemption was finally consummated offering His sinless body and blood to pay for all the sins, transgressions and iniquities of the whole human race (Isa 53: 1-6). Because of His ultimate sacrifice, he disarmed principalities and powers triumphing over them by the cross (Col 2: 14-15). Today, the Lord Jesus is highly exalted in heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father waiting for the appointed time of His glorious return when all His enemies will be subject to His feet and rule the earth in righteousness and justice. He commissioned the Church to assault the gates of hell and set the captives free! Through the power of the gospel of Christ and by the authority of His name, we are commanded to make disciples of nations. Through the power of the indwelling Spirit of God, we are to take authority over all the power of the enemy bringing multitudes of peoples into the Kingdom of God!

The Armies of God in the Last Days

“And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.” Revelation 19:13-14

The spiritual war between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of darkness will be intense in these Last Days. The armies of God in heaven and on the earth will engage the forces of darkness in one of the most intense warfare that heaven and earth has seen! What are at stake are the souls of men and women, youth and children of this last generation! The eternal destiny of seven billion people on the earth hangs in a balance as the great and terrible day of the Lord comes. Despite of the deep entrenchment of evil among nations and peoples where the god of this world has kept the billions of souls in spiritual darkness (II Cor 4:4), the Lord has proclaimed through His prophets the coming of the greatest outpouring of His glory upon the earth (Hab 2:14; Numbers 14:21; Isa 60;1-2; Haggai 2:7). The Lord has prepared His armies to demolish the gates of hell (Matt 16:18) and destroy the works of the devil (I John 3:8). The End Time church will overcome the evil one by the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony and by not loving their lives even to death (Rev 12:11).

The great Apostle Paul declares: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph 6:12). He commanded God’s people to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might putting on the armor of God so that they will be able to stand against the wiles of the devil ( Eph 6: 10-18). He revealed to God’s people that the weapons of our warfare are not physical, natural or carnal weapons! They are spiritual weapons that has the power to pull down strongholds and cast down every argument and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (II Cor 10:4-5)! The army of God has to be disciplined, anointed with the Holy Spirit’s power and filled with God’s divine love (II Tim 1:7). They must be prophetically skillful in using the word of God as a weapon, able to wield the sword of the spirit to overpower all the weapons and schemes of Satan and his demonic hosts (Heb 4:12; Jer 1:10)! The army of God must know how to operate in the supernatural realm and access all the heavenly wisdom and power that are available to them through the Lord Jesus Christ! They must be men and women of godly character, fearing the Lord and totally dependent on Him alone. They must be washed with the blood of the Lamb and clothed with the righteousness of the Savior. They have to be consumed with the passion and mission that the Lord Jesus Christ mandated them to do (Matt 28: 18-20; Luke 4:18-19). They have to be faithful till the End and only desire the highest glory of God in everything that they do.

The powerful and amazing truth is that we will not fight this great battle alone! The army of God in heaven will come down and join us in this terrestrial and celestial war of the ages! The prophet John saw this army coming down from heaven to help the army on the earth to defeat with such decisive finality the forces of darkness on the earth! Yes, the victory is sure! In this war, we will prevail!

Restoration of the Prophetic Ministry

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD….” Malachi 4:5

The prophetic ministry of the church will be restored in the Last Days. The prophet Malachi declared it in no uncertain terms. The Lord will be releasing the prophetic anointing as the Holy Spirit will be poured out in the greatest outpouring in human history! The prophet Joel spoke: “And afterward I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. Even upon the menservants and upon the maidservants in those days will I pour out My Spirit.” (Joe 2:28-29). A company of prophets will arise in these Last Days composed of children, young men, handmaidens and old men and women who will proclaim boldly the spoken word of God!

Prophets are God’s mouthpieces and oracles to proclaim His word to the people (II Chron 20:20; Jeremiah 1: 4-10; Heb 1:1; I Peter 4:11). They are raised up by God to speak the “now” word of the Lord, give directions to God’s people, warn and foretell of things that are to come. The Lord speaks to them in visions, dreams, angelic visitations and direct utterances. Some are taken in the spirit to heaven and go through powerful spiritual experiences receiving the revelations as they come face to face with the Lord or His heavenly councils. Some have seen theophanies of God and caught in His mighty presence. Some are transported in a prophetic scene as the Lord unveils to them the mysteries of God’s will and His ways. Prophets bridge the spiritual with the natural and proclaim in the now the things that are yet to come. They call people to repentance and come back to God. They give directions when the nation faces a crossroad. They are the eyes and ears of mortal men to see and hear from an l God. They are anointed with the supernatural power to do signs and wonders by the authority of the Almighty God as in the times of Moses, Elijah and Elisha. They have been given the ability to know the times and seasons of God like the men of Issachar (I Chron 12:32) and counsel the Kings of the earth like Joseph, Samuel, Nathan and Daniel.

Prophets are here to stay even in the New Testament dispensation. They are raised up today to edify and build up the Church (Eph 4:11). The prophetic ministry is one of the gifts of the spirit (I Corinthians 12:10). They give directions and interpret revelations by the Spirit of God. They are foundational ministries that give stability, growth and empowerment to the Church (Eph 2:20). In these Last Days, the prophetic ministry will be much more pronounced. The anointing of the Lamb spoken of by the Apostle John as he saw in heaven will be manifested upon God’s people: “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.(Rev 5:6)”. The prophetic anointing will be restored in the most powerful way as the Holy Spirit will be poured out upon all flesh! We, the End Time generation must prepare ourselves to receive such anointing and be a people who know our God and do mighty exploits in the Day of His power (Psalm 110:1-3; Dan 11:32).

Restoration of the Spirit of Son-ship

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” Malachi 4:5-6

In the past three weeks, we have been doing a series on the End-Time move of God wherein He is about to restore the things spoken of by the prophets. One of the direct prophecy on this is in the Book of Malachi when the prophet declared a series of things that the Lord will be restoring before the coming of the great and terrible Day of the Lord (Mal 4: 5-6). We have talked about the restoration of the Family; the restoration of the Law of the Lord and the restoration of the Feasts of the Lord including the all-important weekly feast- the Shabbat or Sabbath. As I have repeatedly emphasized, all of these must be looked unto in the light of the finished work of Christ, God’s enabling grace and the dispensation of the Holy Spirit in these Last Days. This is fresh perspective is part of preparing the Bride of Christ for the Second Coming of the Lord and at the same time, empower us with such revelations and spiritual experiences to reap the End Time Harvest.

One of the End Time restorations of what the prophets have promised is the restoration of the spirit of son-ship. The world today is in such chaos and moral degradation because of the orphan spirit that rules the hearts of men since the Fall of Adam and Eve. Sin and willful disobedience of man against God and His word have resulted in a spiritual alienation that has plagued generations of man from eons and eons of time. The answer to this orphan spirit is the spirit of adoption wherein we can cry out with the fullness of assurance and certainty: “Abba Father” (Rom 8:15). This is only possible through the redemptive and sacrificial work of Christ! The Lord Jesus left His heavenly abode to be born on the earth as a man leaving His Heavenly Father and even His divinity behind so that we all can be restored to our position as sons and daughters of God (John 1;12; Rom 8:14, 19; I John 3:1-2 ).

Adam was created by God not just as a great human masterpiece, but first of all as a God’s son! Luke 3: 38 declare the genealogy of the Lord Jesus is traced back all the way to Adam, the son of God. The Lord loved Adam as His very own son! The Father’s love brought Adam to life. God created Adam in His image and likeness! When Adam opened his eyes, it was the face of the Father that he saw! God walked with him in the cool of the day (Gen 3:8). It was the Father’s great love and embrace that was the real cradle of civilization. The first orphan spirit came from Satan or Lucifer himself. He rebelled against God and tried to usurp the power of the Almighty (Isaiah 14: 12-19). The orphan spirit set itself against the love of God. It is destructive, rebellious, self-willed, self-centered and seeks to enthrone itself. That spirit came upon Adam and Eve when they disobeyed God and through them to all mankind. Sin held man captive of this orphan spirit. Alienation, rejection, rebellion and the loss of “home” is a perennial feeling of the orphan spirit. It is amazing that through the Lord Jesus Christ, the orphan spirit was dealt with and the spirit of son-ship is restored! Paul declared that we are accepted in the beloved as sons and daughters of God (Eph 1: 4-6)! Through Christ, we received the spirit of adoption as sons!
